Located on the hidden island of Tervasaari, just a short stroll from central Helsinki, Restaurant TAR inhabits a beautifully restored 19th‑century building once central to the city’s tar trade. Blending historic architecture with contemporary design, TAR offers both elevated rustic dining by day and immersive fine‑dining experiences by night.
Founded by Estonian restaurateurs Tõnis Siigur and Martti Siimann in partnership with Finnish actor‑entrepreneur Jasper Pääkkönen, TAR is built on years of trust, shared taste and hospitality values. It’s meant to be a welcoming space where every detail—from flavors to furnishings—tells its own story.
When Ro Collection was invited to furnish TAR, our goal was to enhance the restaurant’s character with design that resonates with TAR’s spirit: a fusion of rustic warmth and refined precision.
Regatta Chair, in oiled oak with upholstered seat and back in Calvados leather, offers both comfort and individuality. The organic curves and rich tone align with TAR’s aesthetic anchored in both natural materials and subtle elegance.
Hybrid Chair, also crafted in oiled oak with the same luxurious leather upholstery, introduces a slightly different profile while maintaining a coherent identity across the seating ensemble.
Together, these chairs anchor the dining area with warmth, comfort, and quiet sophistication, inviting connection and conversation in TAR’s relaxed yet considered space.
Daytime at TAR unfolds as elevated rustic dining, where guests experience relaxed refinement. Come evening, the mood shifts—becoming more immersive and elegant, underscored by artistry and precision on the plate. Signature dishes from Executive Chef Tõnis Siigur, prepared under Head Chef Konstantin Andriankov’s direction, combine classic French technique with distinctive personal flair and influences from Estonian tradition—resulting in bold, beautiful plates that surprise and delight.
